Niles Paul will look to turn his fortune next year
It was supposed to be Niles Paul's year.
The 26-year-old was supposed to emerge as one of Kirk Cousins' top targets in the passing game. After all, just last season, Paul snagged 39 passes for 507 yards.
But when he went down in a pre-season game with a broken and dislocated ankle (and, while on the field, Paul cried out "this was my year"), Paul had to put that career season on hold.
That was obviously incredibly frustrating, as Paul told Jake Kring-Schreifels of Redskins.com
But despite the horrible injury, it did allow one great thing to emerge: Jordan Reed had a career year and solidified himself as one of the NFL's top tight ends.
Paul saw that coming.
And while every Redskins fan is going wild over Reed, it's important to not forget about Paul. Should he and Reed stay healthy, both players can provide the Redskins with solid receiving skills from the tight end corps. They could possibly team together to become one of the better combos in the NFL.
So while this year may not have been Paul's year, next year may be.
