Coming into the regular season the question on every Oakland Raiders fans mind was: Is Derek Carr the answer at quarterback? Eight games into the season, and it appears as if the Raiders have finally struck on a franchise quarterback after a decade of striking out.

It doesn’t take much to see how important it is to have a good player at the quarterback position. Especially from the eyes of a team who has started more than 20 quarterbacks over the past ten years.

Derek Carr's stats on the season are those of a top ten quarterback. He is currently on pace to throw for over 4,000 yards and 34 touchdowns.

As good as the stats are, my biggest surprise this season is the amount of mistake Carr has made. Through eight weeks, Carr has four interceptions to 19 touchdowns. One can even make the argument that three of those four interceptions were on the receivers.

Carr has dazzled spectators with his poise and leadership in a way that has ignited a spark in this Raiders team.

Many reporters were hesitant on Carrs ability going into the season, but many are retracting their statements now that Carr has shown what he is capable of.

This is just one of the many compliments being compiled as Derek Carr progresses through the year.

Gregg Rosenthal has even jumped on board the bandwagon as he ranked Derek Carr as the tenth best QB in the league in his midseason QB index.

Right now, Carr is making the 32 teams that passed on him in the draft look bad, while the Raiders couldn’t be happier to have him.

Carr looks like he has the ability to be a top QB in the NFL one day. He possess all the traits you want to see from a franchise signal-caller. He can read defenses, has a great arm, and has the accuracy to put the ball wherever he wants.

It is clear that the Raiders are much better than most people expected them to be this season. At 4-4 they are in contention for the AFC wild card and it is all thanks to number four, Derek Carr.
