Odell Beckham Jr. got credit for a catch he didn't come close to making

The New York Giants got off to an unusually hot start against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, scoring a touchdown on their opening possession. Entering the game, they were 31st in points scored on opening drives.

It was an impressive march down the field, but it was also helped by one of the worst calls by an official you’ll ever see. On first-and-10, Eli Manning appeared to hit Odell Beckham Jr. on the right side for a 4-yard gain. Only, upon further review, the ball clearly hit the turf.

It was ruled a catch, which is embarrassing in its own right. What’s even worse is the Lions opted not to challenge it. The Giants converted on third-and-2 just two plays later thanks to a 4-yard run by Rashad Jennings.

Had it not been for Beckham’s “catch,” New York likely would’ve faced third-and-6, assuming the Giants gained 4 yards on first down.

New York went on to win 17-6 so the call likely wouldn't have impacted the game much, but you might never see a gaffe that bad ever again.
