OFFICIAL: 2017 NFL Draft to be held in Philadelphia
Philadelphia will host the 2017 NFL Draft.
It’s finally official. The 2017 NFL Draft will be held in Philadelphia.
This is an announcement that’s been expected for some time now. Reports surfaced back in April that Philadelphia was one of the top contenders to host the draft. The announcement was officially made in an NFL press conference Thursday that the draft will indeed be held in the City of Brotherly Love.
The draft will be held on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and players will run up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, just like Rocky did!
The first ever NFL Draft was held in Philadelphia in 1936, but the last time the draft was held in Philly was in December of 1960.
It should be noted that the Philadelphia Eagles do not have a first round pick in this year’s draft, which may or may not have been part of the reason why the NFL chose to hold the draft in Philadelphia. The Eagles’ fanbase, obviously, is very passionate. Sometimes a little too passionate when it comes to their relations with fans of visiting teams. The Eagles not having a first round pick may welcome more visitors from around the country as opposed to the venue being completely overrun by Eagles fans.
There’s no word on whether the draft will continue to be held in Philadelphia, but it does seem the NFL is looking to change the venue every year. Similar to how the NHL does their drafts.
