Ohio State could challenge a legendary NFL Draft record

The Ohio State Buckeyes can challenge perhaps the most impressive record in NFL Draft history -- the most first-round picks from one school in a single draft.

Miami currently holds the record with six first-rounders, which it set in 2004. That class included: Sean Taylor (No. 5 overall); Kellen Winslow Jr. (No. 6); Jonathan Vilma (No. 12); D.J. Williams (No. 17); Vernon Carey (No. 19); and Vince Wilfork (No. 21).

Ohio State can make a run at the Canes with this 2016 class. Peter Schrager ran through the potential picks on the latest episode of The Audible (Schrager has five Buckeyes in his seven-round mock draft).

Here are the surest Buckeyes to go in the first round on Thursday:

After those four, there seems to be a little more variance in opinion on safety Vonn Bell, a great athlete who could also play corner, and cornerback Eli Apple, who could start as a team's No. 2 CB as a rookie.

But both Bell and Apple still have a good shot to be taken within the first 31 picks (remember, there's one fewer first-round spot this year because of New England's forfeited pick), which would give the Buckeyes six to officially tie the record.

And this is a longshot, but if you want to dream about Ohio State breaking Miami's record, you need to root for a receiver-needy team reaching for Michael Thomas or a linebacker-needy team reaching for Joshua Perry. That probably won't happen, but seven first-rounders would be insane.
