Orlando Scandrick to join Cowboys for voluntary workouts
Dallas Cowboys starting cornerback Orlando Scandrick skipped the team's first set of voluntary workouts last month in an attempt to leverage a renegotiation of his contract. Sources tell Mike Fisher of CBS Dallas Fort Worth that Scadrick recently met with the Joneses to talk about a reworked contract. Now, those same sources believe that Scandrick will report to the practice field when the team meets for OTAs on May 26, 2015.
Scandrick is set to earn just $1.5 million in 2015 despite finishing as Pro Football Focus' 10th-best cornerback overall out of over 100 qualifiers after taking over midseason for starter Mo Claiborne. Although Scandrick's play on the field offers him plenty of leverage, his contract does not. A mandatory minicamp is scheduled for June 16th, and if Scandrick does not show up to that, he could forfeit up to $500,000 of his current base salary. The two sides are hoping to work out a renegotiated deal before then.
