Packers DB takes blame for Fitzgerald's backbreaking 75-yard OT catch in Divisional Round

The most mind-bending game of the 2016 NFL playoffs nearly ended on the first play of overtime.

In the wider view, then-rookie defensive back Damarious Randle lines up over Fitzgerald, who runs a crossing route when Randle falls off instead of following Fitzgerald across the field.

“I put that play on myself,” Randall told USA Today during Packers' OTAs last week. “I take 100 percent blame for it.”

Fitzgerald found himself surrounded by green grass with no Packers in the vicinity before starting his dash to Green Bay's 5-yard-line, aided by some missed tackles. And then he caught the game-winning 5-yard touchdown pass.

It's a hard lesson learned for Randle, the team's 2015 first-round draft pick.

“It was just a mistake that was made,” he said. “That’s football. I just know that I’m going to make a lot more plays than I give up for the Green Bay Packers.”
