Packers fantasy football fallout after Week 15 victory over Bears
If you started Ty Montgomery, you’re likely heading to the championship game next week. Montgomery led an otherwise uninspiring fantasy display from the Green Bay Packers.
Tell Aaron Rodgers owners the Packers will rack up 451 yards of total offense and score 30 points and they will probably expect a big day from No. 12. Rodgers, of course, went touchdown-less at Chicago. The fantasy gods weren’t kind this week.
That is, unless you picked up Ty Montgomery and started him this week. If you did what I didn’t do and actually put him in your lineup, congratulations. It was a brave call, but one that is likely sending you to the final.
Aaron Rodgers leaves owners hamstrung: Despite patching together an MVP performance on essentially one leg, Rodgers’ fantasy owners were left frustrated and possibly facing elimination. Rodgers posted a touchdown-less game for the first time since Week 8 of 2015. Fantasy is cruel.
A potential championship winner: Rodgers’ loss was Ty Montgomery’s gain. If you plugged the receiver-turned-running back into your lineup, chances are you’re heading to the championship game next week.
Montgomery was simply dominant, rushing for 162 yards and two touchdowns, piling up 31.08 fantasy points. The second-year man could win you a title.
No touchdown, but Jordy delivers: His day could’ve been a whole lot better if not for a couple of uncharacteristic drops, but it could’ve also been much worse. Nelson was staring down the barrel at his worst fantasy outing since the last meeting with Chicago in Week 7, but he made up for it with a 60-yard reception at the end of regulation.
Nelson finished with 124 receiving yards. It’s not game-changing, but it doesn’t kill your chances of advancing either.
Fantasy heartbreak: This had all the ingredients of a big Davante Adams performance, but the third-year man cost owners with two huge drops in the end zone. It could have been different. That’s football, though. Adams did the hard work by breaking loose of his coverage, but he failed at the simple tasks.
A disappointing day for those relying on Adams.
The rest: Anyone brave enough to start Christine Michael (10.50 fantasy points) benefited after he broke free on a 42-yard touchdown run. Still, he shouldn’t be started next week after registering just four touches versus Chicago. Randall Cobb (0.00 points) rewarded those who started him with a Christmas bagel. Ouch. Jared Cook (8.50 points) posted a nice stat line but can’t be trusted on a weekly basis.
The Green Bay D/ST (9.00 points) kept up their impressive form of late. After picking off Russell Wilson five times last week, they intercepted Matt Barkley three times on Sunday.
The Packers are a good streaming option next week against a Vikings defense that just allowed 18 points to the Indianapolis D/ST.
