Packers GM doesn't seem too worried he'll lose Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers

When the NFL told four players earlier this week that they’d be suspended if they didn’t submit to an interview regarding an Al Jazeera America report tying them to PED use, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison continued his very public stance of resisting that process.

But Green Bay Packers linebackers Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers -- the two other star players named in the report along with Harrison and free agent Mike Neal -- have taken a noticeably different approach: silence.

On Tuesday, with the Aug. 25 deadline to interview fast approaching, they did get some support from their general manager, Ted Thompson, who didn’t bely his stoic nature in explaining that he’d be just as silent as his two linebackers after telling reporters this one thing:

And then there was this one other thing: He’s not exactly making plans for what to do in case he loses two of his best defensive players.

Conclusion: This doesn’t sound like a man who’s entirely too concerned this whole thing won’t work itself out.
