Packers long snapper Goode out for season with knee injury

Published Dec. 22, 2015 5:00 p.m. ET

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) The Packers will need to make a late-season adjustment on special teams after placing veteran long snapper Brett Goode on season-ending injured reserve with a knee injury.

General manger Ted Thompson on Tuesday signed Rick Lovato, a rookie from Old Dominion who served as the long snapper for all 50 games of his college career. Lovato spent time in the offseason and training camp with the Chicago Bears.

Goode's injury comes as a surprise, as he was not listed on any injury report in recent weeks, or following Sunday's win over Oakland.

Goode joined the Packers in 2008 and played in 137 straight games, including 14 this season.
