Packers RB Eddie Lacy reportedly needs foot surgery, goes on IR

Just hours before the Green Bay Packers were scheduled to play the Chicago Bears without star running back Eddie Lacy on Thursday night, ESPN reported that Lacy would be placed on IR with a foot injury that will require surgery.

Lacy played in Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys with what had been called an injured ankle, and the team had already ruled him out of Thursday’s game. Later Thursday came the news that Lacy was officially placed on IR and that Don Jackson would be called up to the practice squad to replace him.

The Packers are already missing backup James Starks (knee), and they traded for Kansas City Chiefs backup Kniles Davis earlier in the week to help fill the void, but Jackson is expected to get the bulk of the work Thursday night. Jackson is an undrafted rookie who ran for 1,079 yards at the University of Nevada last season but didn't get any carries in the preseason because the Packers cut him before training camp. He was added to the practice squad Sept. 5.
