CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) The Carolina Panthers are expected to turn their attention to the defensive side of the ball on day two of the NFL draft.

Carolina has one pick in the second round (No. 55) and two picks in the third round (Nos. 85 and 88) on Friday night.

Carolina used its first round pick on Maryland wide receiver D.J. Moore.

He gives quarterback Cam Newton yet another go-to option on offense. The decision to draft Moore comes one year after the Panthers selected running back Christian McCaffrey in the first round and wide receiver Curtis Samuel in the second.

The Panthers have needs at defensive end, cornerback and safety after losing starters from last season at all three positions.
