Patriots' Blount takes jab at Jeff Fisher, suggests he ought to know other names now
In the week leading up to the Los Angeles Rams game at the New England Patriots, Rams head coach Jeff Fisher raised a lot of eyebrows when said "Danny" when referencing Patriots running backs. At best it showed unfamiliarity with an opponent's personnel and required later clarification from the Rams, which we discussed last week and won't rehash.
Now that the game has unfolded -- a 26-10 drubbing by the Patriots in which the Rams had only seven first downs and 162 yards of total offense, Patriots leading rusher LeGarrette Blount indicated that the team's stable of running backs heard about Fisher's apparently inability to recall the names of James White and Dion Lewis.
“He already knew my name,” Blount said, via the Boston Herald. “I think he knows James and Dion now for sure, though.”
Blount led the charge for New England while Lewis added 38 yards rushing and receiving and James White pitched in another 35.
The bruising 250-pound Blount led the way again with 18 carries for 88 yards, taking him within 43 of notching 1,000 for the season.
Meanwhile on the same day Fisher pulled within one loss (164) of tying Dan Reeves (165) for the most losses by an NFL coach in history, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Rams (4-8) indeed have signed Fisher to a two-year contract extension, which had previously been rumored.
The Rams' Melonheads are going to need to recruit some new members to keep spirits high for the remainder of Fisher's 2016 run toward 7-9.
