Patriots' Garoppolo coughs up five interceptions in practice
Fortunately for the New England Patriots, backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has three months to practice until the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers in September.
Reportedly, the second-year quarterback struggled big time in Thursday’s practice. In 11-on-11 drills, Garoppolo threw five interceptions and completed just 23 of his 35 passing attempts.
It was also reported that Garoppolo was holding onto the ball far too long, which would normally result in a surplus of sacks during real competition.
Something worth noting regarding Garoppolo’s interceptions is that the Patriots are now without three of their top cornerbacks from last season's Super Bowl-winning squad.
While there is still plenty of time for Garoppolo to sharpen up his skills and lose the nerves, the first reports of his uneasiness and inaccuracy are somewhat alarming. At this time, the Patriots are going to be without starter Tom Brady for the first four games of the regular season. Unless Brady’s suspension is reduced or wiped away completely on appeal, Garoppolo will start Games 1-4.
Nervous yet, Patriots fans?
