Jonathan Freeny must have made a strong impression on the New England Patriots in his first months with the team.
The Patriots signed the linebacker to a one-year contract extension, according to NFLPA records.
Freeny, who originally signed a one-year deal with the Patriots in March worth $1 million, will earn a $1 million base salary in 2016. The extension includes a $500,000 signing bonus, ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported Thursday. The contract also includes $250,000 worth of per game roster bonuses.
Freeny has played 37 special teams snaps, tied for second on the Patriots with Matthew Slater behind Brandon Bolden. Freeny has played just two defensive snaps this season.
He began his career as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers with the Miami Dolphins in 2011. He played with the Dolphins from 2011 to 2014.
