Patriots WR Julian Edelman calls trip to Israel 'once-in-a-lifetime'

It's been a rough offseason physically for New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman. He has missed just about all of training camp with a leg injury, and his status for Week 1 is still up in the air.

Even with injury issues and not being able to be on the field with his teammates, Edelman has found a way to make this offseason worthwhile and a "life-changing" one.

Back in June after minicamp closed for the Patriots, Edelman took a trip to Israel with the Combined Jewish Philanthropies group of Boston.

"It was an unbelievable, once-in-a-lifetime kind of deal, and something I enjoyed," Edelman said on Wednesday, via Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald. "It really put life in perspective, going there and seeing an unbelievable country and why it’s so special. It was kind of cool to have my official birthright trip with an unbelievable group of people that have already been to Israel to share that experience with me."

Edelman and the group traveled all across Israel, from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv -- while doing everything from ride camels to swim in the Dead Sea.

"It was cool to be able to share some of my knowledge of the game with these guys over there who were just so hungry and thankful, I think, to hear what I had to say," Edelman said. "It was a fun experience."

Edelman, who has his own channel on YouTube, shared a video montage of the trip, showing all of the incredible experiences he had while overseas. It's made clear in the video that Edelman had a great time with the Boston group.
