Peyton Manning didn't get paid to plug Budweiser at Super Bowl
Congrats to you, Budweiser. You won the Super Bowl 50 free advertising award.
Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was as happy as a clam after beating the Carolina Panthers on Sunday for the second -- and possibly -- final Super Bowl win of his decorated career. But it was postgame when the weirdness started.
Because it seemed like Peyton was pretty thirsty. Specifically, for a certain brand of beer. While talking to CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson right after the game ended, he said he planned to kiss his wife and "drink a lot of Budweiser tonight."
OK, that was odd, but maybe it was just a one-time thing? Nope. Just a short time later at the presentation of the Lombardi Trophy, Manning did it again. After mentioning that he was going to kiss his wife and kids, he said he was "gonna drink a lot of beer tonight ... Budweiser. Von Miller's buying."
He must have been slipped some money from the beer giant, right?
Wrong. Budweiser executive Lisa Weser said this:
According to Marketwatch, an analytics group said one mention by Manning was worth about $1.6 million for Budweiser and since he mentioned them twice, that makes it a sum of $3.2 million.
However, something Weser didn't mention is that Manning DOES have an interest in the company. It was revealed in 2014 that he has a stake in two Anheuser-Busch distributors in Louisiana.
Hmmm. That Peyton Manning is a crafty one. Don't kid yourself.
