Philadelphia Eagles expected to trade Mychal Kendricks, per source
Mychal Kendricks had another down year in 2016 and will likely be traded by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Linebacker Mychal Kendricks‘ days with the Philadelphia Eagles could very well be coming to an end.
According to Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice, Kendricks is receiving interest from other teams and it is expected that the five-year veteran will be moved rather than simply released this offseason.
According to a source, the Philadelphia Eagles are willing to move on from Mychal Kendricks this offseason, and it is anticipated that teams around the league will have interest in acquiring Kendricks via a trade.
Kendricks has been one of the Eagles’ more disappointing players in recent seasons. In 2016, he played just 26.8 percent of the Eagles’ defensive snaps. When on the field, he didn’t do much to earn more playing time, recording just 32 tackles in 15 games.
By trading Kendricks, the Eagles would save just $1.8 million in cap space. However, the Eagles could also save $5 million by releasing him, but that would require the Eagles to wait until June 1 to save the extra money.
One possible suitor for Kendricks could be the San Francisco 49ers. In a recent ESPN article, cap specialist Joel Corry claimed the Eagles could move the 26-year-old linebacker in return for Torrey Smith.
Knowing they need a receiver that can stretch the field, I would try to pry Torrey Smith away and ship him to San Francisco, if possible, because Torrey Smith ($8 million average per year) will probably be cheaper than any speed receiver you’re going to try and get.
If the Eagles traded Kendricks for Smith, the team would have to take on the remaining $24 million left on Smith’s current contract.
Kendricks was originally selected in the second round (46th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft. In five seasons with the Eagles, Kendricks has recorded 382 tackles, 12 sacks, three interceptions and six forced fumbles.
