Prescott to remain Cowboys starting quarterback
Dallas Cowboys owner/general mangaer Jerry Jones and head coach Jason Garrett quickly refuted any talk of benching rookie quarterback Dak Prescott in favor of putting veteran Tony Romo back in the lineup.
Prescott went 17–37 for 165 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in a 10–7 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday night breaking the Cowboys 11-game winning streak. Prescott was also sacked three times in the game.
"No. No. No. No," Jones said, after being asked if Prescott's ineffectiveness in the game could lead to Romo returning to the lineup. "No, it does not."
"He's got 13 NFL ballgames at a high level under his belt and what's he got, four interceptions now? Four? So four interceptions," Jones said. "I feel good about our quarterback and I like where we are at the quarterback position. We should have asked and wanted him to make the drive that might have won this thing for us tonight. I don't want to make excuses. Most of what happened to us tonight was a well-coached New York Giants defense."
The Giants held the Cowboys to 260 yards of total offense with Dallas converting one of their 15 third-down attempts.
Garrett was also asked about Prescott's status as a starter moving forward.
“We just feel good about where Dak is right now,” Garrett said.
Dallas still has the best record in the NFC and will play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday night.
