President Obama weighs in on Colin Kaepernick's anthem protest

If you feel like everyone with an opinion on Colin Kaepernick’s controversial decision not to stand during the national anthem has weighed in, you’d be wrong.

President Barack Obama hadn’t addressed the San Francisco 49ers quarterback's very public protest against oppression of people of color until Monday, during his press conference at the G20 Summit in China. Obama showed support for Kaepernick’s sincerity:

Kaepernick ignited a firestorm of debate when he sat during the anthem before the 49ers’ third preseason game and then knelt during it before their fourth preseason game. He made San Francisco’s final roster after losing a battle for the starting quarterback job with Blaine Gabbert.
