Rams quarterback Jared Goff placed in concussion protocol

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 2:15 p.m. ET

Los Angeles Rams rookie quarterback Jared Goff was placed in the league's concussion protocol after taking a hard hit during the 4th quarter of Thursday night's 24–3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Goff took a hit to the helmet from Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman after a 15-yard scramble. The run was wiped out because of a holding penalty.

Goff did not return and was replaced in the game by backup Case Keenum.

"He will be OK but it's probably not going to happen again," interim head coach Johm Fassel said about Goff. "He seemed OK, but he's maybe tough enough to disguise (his condition)."

"You admire his courage, but you just have to get out of bounds. Young quarterbacks, you don't have to fight for the extra yard. And he'll learn that. He's just got to get out of bounds."

Goff completed 13 of 25 passes for 135 yards before leaving the game.

Los Angeles, which has lost five games in a row, play the San Francisco 49ers on Dec. 24.
