Ravens not worried about Breshad Perriman falling behind
Ravens rookie receiver Breshad Perriman missed his 10th straight practice Tuesday and is in danger of missing his first preseason game, but the coaching staff isn't worried about the No. 26 overall pick falling behind.
Perriman has been sidelined since suffering a bruised knee on the first day of training camp. There was hope that Perriman would be able to step right in and become a starter for the departed Torrey Smith, but Kamar Aiken appears to have the inside track now. Offensive coordinator Marc Trestman is confident that Perriman will be able to keep up despite the prolonged absence.
"He's a smart young man. He's not going to get behind learning the offense," Trestman said per ESPN.com. "Obviously, he doesn't have the opportunity to develop his skill set on the grass, but we can't do anything about that. We'll work hard with Bobby [Engram, wide receivers coach] and our coaches to get him ready as quickly as we can and put him in a position where he can compete. When that time comes, we'll get started."
Head coach John Harbaugh indicated over the weekend that Perriman was getting closer, and left open the possibility that Perriman could still take the field in Thursday's preseason opener against New Orleans even if he doesn't practice before then.
