Ray Lewis explains how the Giants' handling of Odell Beckham could impact his future in NY

Odell Beckham Jr. is one of the most talented wide receivers in the game today – and quite possibly of the last decade. His meteoric rise to stardom was almost immediate following his iconic one-handed catch, paired with his can’t-miss hairdo.

His popularity is undeniable, but it is also likely what has gotten him into hot water of late. He’s outspoken and inconsolable on the sidelines, throwing tantrums and attempting to fight kicking nets.

His antics have resulted in Eli Manning, Ben McAdoo and Tom Coughlin speaking out on the situation, and not necessarily in a positive light. Even Brandon Marshall is urging the Giants to tread carefully or they could “lose him” in the near future.

Ray Lewis, appearing on FS1’s “Undisputed” Thursday, echoed the same sentiment. If the Giants continue to call out Beckham and handle the situation irresponsibly, Beckham could find his way out of New York.

“You think about how they’re handling that, and how teammates are not stepping up, it’s really interesting to me. If you go around and watch people who go through other things and teams who go through other things, you’ll find that your teammates will actually defend you – they’ll step up for you.

“And so I’m with BM (Brandon Marshall) simply because of that. You have to protect your investment. When you think about what Odell is in New York and how big he can be in New York. He’s gonna continue to be a great player. He’s gonna continue to do what he does. He doesn’t need that extra criticism coming from inside.”

Lewis argues that the way the Giants have handled the situation could have an impact on Beckham’s free agency decision down the line.

“Now you’re talking about three years into his deal, he’s probably got two more left. … If you rub him wrong, then free agency comes up, who does he choose? Then he says, ‘I can’t stay around this because if home isn’t treating me right, then I have to go somewhere else.’”
