Ray Lewis' son arrested, charged with sexual battery
Ray Lewis III, Coastal Carolina cornerback and son of retired Baltimore Ravens star linebacker Ray Lewis, was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct Friday, according to Horry County (South Carolina) Sherrif's Office records.
According to the arrest warrant, Conway, S.C., police were called to a local hospital on Jan. 23 in response to two women's claims that they had been sexually assaulted. The women asked for rape kits to be administered, and the kits were placed into evidence and under investigation.
The investigation was completed on April 25, and a warrant was then issued for the 20-year-old Lewis' arrest, alleging "Ray Anthony Lewis III did engage in sexual battery with an 18-year-old female ... with the knowledge that the victim was mentally incapacitated, and/or physically helpless from the use of drugs and/or alcohol."
Lewis turned himself into Conway police Friday morning, when he was booked and released on $10,000 bond.
Case Brittain, one of the attorneys who represented Ray Lewis Sr. during his 2001 murder trial, told WMBF he is representing the former Ravens star's son as well.
"Ray Lewis III is innocent of all charged and we expect him to be fully vindicated at the end of this matter," Brittain said.
After spending two years at his father's alma mater, the University of Miami, Ray Lewis III transferred to Coastal Carolina, where the sophomore cornerback had 14 solo tackles and five assists in 12 games last season.
University spokeswoman Martha Hunn said Lewis was suspended from the team upon his arrest.
