RB Devonta Freeman on hamstring injury: 'The pain is gone'

Published Sep. 14, 2015 12:20 p.m. ET

When the news first broke that rookie running back Tevin Coleman would be the starter in Week 1 for the Atlanta Falcons, it seemed as though RB Devonta Freeman may miss the opener. Apparently, though, according to Vaughn McClure of ESPN, that's not the case.

Freeman not only plans to play Monday now, he said that he's feeling great.

"I'm good," Freeman told ESPN. "I feel great making those cuts. The pain is gone. All the pain is gone. Right now, it's just about getting that rust off. I've been out for like four weeks ago. I'm trying to get all the rust off and get in tip-top shape."

This is big news for the Falcons, as they'll have a three-headed monster at RB in Coleman, Freeman and home run-hitter Antone Smith. Expect the Falcons to utilize all three against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.
