Report: Agent says Aaron Rodgers will top Russell Wilson's contract

Published Jun. 30, 2015 12:07 p.m. ET

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is on the verge of becoming a very rich man, but some believe Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers is destined to be richer.

Speaking on Bleacher Report Radio, NFL insider Jason Cole said, even if the Seahawks make Wilson the league's highest-paid player, it won't stay that way for long. Within six to 12 months after Wilson signs, his agent expects Eli Manning, Andrew Luck and Rodgers to sign bigger contracts, in terms of average annual salary, according to Cole.

While Wilson and Manning are both entering a contract year (the Colts picked up Luck's fifth-year option for 2016 back in April), Rodgers isn't slated to reach free agency until the spring of 2020. Cole touched on his contract situation, in particular.

"My contention with Aaron Rodgers is he's signed through 2019," Cole said. "He's probably not going to get past (Wilson's) mark, unless the Packers just want to make him happy and say, 'Look, we know you're the best quarterback in football. We'll make sure that you're taken care of' and give him an adjustment. I don't know how that's going to go."

Of the quarterbacks mentioned in the report, Rodgers could conceivably come away with the highest per-year average. He has two league MVP awards and his competition has combined for none.
