Report: Ameer Abdullah 'seizing control' of Lions' starting RB job
The Detroit Lions spent a second-round pick on former Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah in this year's draft, but initial projections had him serving as Joique Bell's backup as a rookie.
With Bell still recovering from offseason knee and Achilles surgeries on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, however, Abdullah is "seizing control" of the Lions' starting running back job, according to Bleacher Report's Jason Cole.
Lions head coach Jim Caldwell sees "special ability" in Abdullah, according to Cole. The young running back appears to be handling his first NFL training camp extraordinarily well and is not only establishing himself as a fine ball-carrier, but as a reliable pass-catcher as well.
Cole explains how he expects to see the Lions' running back situation shake out in the video player below.
