Report: Chiefs viewed Peters as the draft's best cornerback

Not Michigan State's Trae Waynes. Not Wake Forest's Kevin Johnson.

Per reports, the Chiefs think their guy, Marcus Peters, will be the top cornerback of his class.

"I'm told the Chiefs viewed Marcus Peters as the best, pure, more complete cornerback on the board," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said on the air following the Chiefs pick.

Rapoport also reported the Washington Huskies coaching staff "crushed" Peters when the Chiefs asked about him. But former Huskies coach and current USC coach Steve Sarkisian had nothing but "rave reviews" on Peters, according to Rapoport.

Kansas City took another late look at Peters, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

And in the end, John Dorsey and Co. took the third cornerback of the draft -- the guy they think has the potential to be the best cover man in his class.
