Report: Injury-plagued Colts are working out veteran CB Antonio Cromartie
The injury bug has hit the Indianapolis Colts hard this offseason, particularly at cornerback. Both starters, Vontae Davis and Patrick Robinson, are sidelined with ankle and groin injuries, respectively, while nickel corner Darius Butler has been out with a hamstring ailment.
As a result, the Colts are taking a look at a veteran cornerback who’s been on the market for months. According to Stephen Holder of IndyStar, Indianapolis is working out Antonio Cromartie, among others.
The biggest obstacle for the 32-year-old four-time Pro Bowl selection is his hip injury that’s hindered him. If the Colts want to sign him, he’ll have to pass a physical, which could be an issue.
Cromartie was cut by the Jets following the 2015 season after having a poor year that included a lot of touchdowns surrendered – too many, actually. He hasn’t gotten a lot of buzz this offseason with his declining play and age, but a desperate team like the Colts could help him land a job for 2016.
Right now, though, head coach Chuck Pagano says the cornerback situation is “a little scary.” And frankly, he’s not wrong.
