Report: Minnesota Vikings CB Josh Robinson has partially torn pectoral muscle

Published Jul. 6, 2015 3:10 p.m. ET

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Josh Robinson partially tore his pectoral muscle before the team's minicamp in June, a league source told ESPN's Ben Goessling.

Despite the injury, the Vikings are still deep at cornerback and shouldn't struggle to field a competent starter opposite Xavier Rhodes on the outside this year. Rookie first-rounder Trae Waynes and veterans Terrance Newman and Captain Munnerlyn are all expected to compete for playing time.

Robinson was a third-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft and has played 42 games since his rookie season (mostly as a nickelback), intercepting five passes along the way. Goessling points out in his report that the 24-year-old cornerback joins Brandon Fusco, Phil Loadholt and Brian Robison as major contributors who have suffered pectoral injuries in the last year.
