Report: P.J. Williams arrested for DUI just before NFL Draft
By Doug Kyed
P.J. Williams’ hopes of being selected early in the 2015 NFL draft might have been dashed early Friday morning.
The Florida State cornerback was arrested for a DUI Friday at 3:08 a.m., NFL Media’s Albert Breer reported, via the Leon County jail. Williams was rated as an early second-round pick by The Sports Xchange prior to the incident.
Williams’ stock is likely to drop after the arrest, which shows a lack of maturity and decision-making. Alfonzo Dennard was arrested for punching a police officer prior to the 2012 NFL draft and dropped all the way to the seventh round after being projected as a second- or third-rounder. The 2015 NFL draft takes place from April 30 to May 2.
Williams was involved in another traffic-related incident in October, The New York Times reported in November. Williams drove his car into the path of an incoming vehicle then fled the scene of the accident and only was issued two tickets by the Tallahassee, Fla., police. Both cars were totaled in the accident and Williams, who was driving with a suspended license, eventually returned to the scene.
Williams was with fellow cornerback prospect Ronald Darby during the October incident. Darby is projected to be selected in the second or third round of the 2015 NFL draft.
