Report: Rams sign coach Jeff Fisher to contract extension

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has signed a contract extension, believed to be for two years, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.

Fisher had long been rumored to be working on an extension, with reports emerging as early as August that the parties were expected to reach a deal. Fisher agreed to the deal during the preseason but did not actually sign it until during the season, Rapoport adds. Rams COO Kevin Demoff told Pro Football Talk last week that Fisher had not yet signed an extension.

Fisher has been with the Rams since 2012 and has a 31–43–1 record. He has never led the team to the playoffs or even finished with a .500 record. Los Angeles is 4–7 this season.

Fisher coached the Oilers/Titans for 17 years, making six playoff appearances. He has the 11th most wins by an NFL coach and the second most losses. If the Rams lose two more games, he will tie Dan Reeves with 165 losses.
