Report: Vontaze Burfict seeking sit-down with Roger Goodell
By Jesse Reed
After being hit with a three-game ban for the start of the 2016 NFL season, Vontaze Burfict reportedly hopes to convince Roger Goodell to reduce the suspension in a face-to-face meeting.
Such a meeting has yet to be established, but a source close to Burfict told ESPN’s Coley Harvey that the Cincinnati Bengals linebacker wants to meet up with the NFL commissioner “at his earliest convenience” in New York.
Given how Goodell has been unwilling to budge when faced with similar requests from some of the NFL’s superstars in the past, this seems like a lost cause. Burfict is known as a dirty player around the league, and he has two glaring examples on record within the past few weeks in which he clearly crossed the line.
Burfict will almost certainly need to resort to the NFL’s appeals process to have any chance to having his suspension reduced. He’s rumored to be headed in that direction already, per Adam Caplan of ESPN.
The way things are going for the former undrafted free agent, Burfict could soon be faced with a much stiffer punishment. Clearly he has anger issues and has yet to master playing with enough discipline to combat his hot-running tendencies.
