Reports: RB Gore re-thinking Eagles, now leaning toward Colts?

Free agent running back Frank Gore was said to be the man to replace LeSean McCoy in Philadelphia, but reports Monday say he is re-thinking that move and leaning toward joining the Indianapolis Colts.

Gore has "pulled out" of the pending deal with the Eagles, NFL.com and others reported, and FOX Sports 1 NFL insider Mike Garafolo says "indications are" that Gore "is intent on joining the Colts."

Gore was reaching out to members of the Colts to learn more about the team, CBS Sports reported. Colts head coach Chuck Pagano was an assistant at the University of Miami shortly before Gore arrived to play there. Colts associate head coach Rob Chudzinski was offensive coordinator at Miami during Gore's time.

The Colts could certainly use the help -- they were 22nd in the NFL in rushing last season.

The Eagles shipped McCoy to the Buffalo Bills last week in a trade that rocked the NFL landscape. Reports Sunday said Gore was expected to sign a three-year deal with the Eagles on Tuesday when the new league year begins. That could still happen, of course, despite the new development.

If Gore does move to a new team, it would mark the end of an illustrious 10-year career in San Francisco. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in eight of those seasons for the 49ers, including the past four. He has made five Pro Bowls, most recently in 2013.

No deal can be final until 4 p.m. ET Tuesday when the free agency period officially opens.
