Rival Watch: Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott could face suspension
Dallas Cowboys running back could be in danger of a lengthy ban from the NFL.
There’s a possibility that fans of the Dallas Cowboys could be looking at a suspension involving their star rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott is being investigated for possibly being in violation of the NFL‘s domestic abuse policy.
More from Inside the Iggles
Elliott escaped charges this past summer after a complaint was filed accusing him of five separate instances of domestic abuse. The prosecutors office in Columbus, Ohio determined, at that time, there was “conflicting and inconsistent information across all incidents resulting in concern regarding the sufficiency of the evidence to support the filing of criminal charges.”
Sources also state that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones inquired about the situation with Lisa Friel, who investigates incidents of domestic violence for the NFL, at the most recent league meetings. Friel offered no response to Jones at that time.
At this point, no statement has been made by the NFL, Jones or Elliott. The NFL interviewed the rookie this week in conjunction with the investigation, but in wake of the suspension of New York Giants kicker Josh Brown and the way the Ray Rice incident was handled, many are watching how the league will handle its’ most recent story of domestic abuse.
The NFL puts no timetable on matters of this nature and investigates each instance whether charges were brought against an individual or not. One thing’s certain. This brings more unwarranted scrutiny to a league that doesn’t need any more of it.
We’ll be watching this one closely.
