Rival Watch: The Giants, the Cowboys and the Redskins

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 11:09 p.m. ET

The Giants are getting hot at the right time, the Cowboys continue to roll and the Redskins blow a tremendous opportunity.

Week 15 of the NFL season is in the books, and week 16 is only a few days away for “The Birdgang”. The Philadelphia Eagles have two games remaining in the 2016 season, and they’ve got revenge on their minds against the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants. Neither team will win any popularity contests if you poll Eagles fans. Both have beaten the Eagles in the 2016 season. Some will tell you the Eagles gave both games away, but it doesn’t really matter. A loss is a loss.

The Cowboys are 12-2 with both of their losses coming at the hands of the Giants. The Giants are re-writing that classic Giants tale that we keep seeing. You know. The one where they get hot at the right time. The Washington Redskins walked into week 15 with legitimate playoff chances, but after laying an egg at home against the Carolina Panthers, they’ll need help to get in.

So here’s what we know. You can throw the ‘Skins out of the equation. Even if they make the playoffs, they’ll be bounced in the first round. The Cowboys, as you know, are owners of some of the most emotional fans in sports. They won’t want to hear this, but it’s not going to happen this year for them either.

Their owner, Jerry Jones is intentionally saying things to stir up a quarterback controversy. In his mind, that’s a good idea. Everyone else knows, when your coach is Jason Garrett, your best receiver is a diva who’s not performing and your quarterback is a rookie, it probably isn’t. Keep in mind coaches who have been in this league for years probably won’t have an issue devising a gameplan to neutralize a quarterback and running back tandem who have been in the league for a few months.

That leaves the Giants, who are again getting hot at the right time. Their quarterback, Eli Manning is the exact opposite of his brother. Peyton Manning was the great quarterback who looked flawless in the regular season but sometimes stalled in big games. Eli, on the other hand, is a disappointing regular-season quarterback who doesn’t seem to feel pressure in big moments. Go figure. This Giants team is one you may want to watch down the stretch.

Eagles fans will get a close look at both the Cowboys and the Giants in the next two weeks. Stay tuned. Things are about to get interesting.
