Browns place Robert Griffin III on injured reserve after hit from Jalen Mills.
The Philadelphia Eagles beat down the Cleveland Browns in their season opener Sunday and it appears they may have knocked out Robert Griffin III in the process.
The Browns placed RG3 on injured reserve Monday after learning he has a fractured coracoid bone in his left shoulder, which is obviously a pretty big blow to the Browns’ already pessimistic chances in 2016. Griffin suffered the injury when he was hit by rookie cornerback Jalen Mills as he was trying to run out of bounds late in the Eagles’ home opener.
Under the new injured reserve rules, each team can allow one player to return if placed on IR. More than likely that player will be Griffin for the Browns, seeing as he is their only legitimate option at quarterback. Griffin will be reevaluated in 3-4 weeks, but the injury could potentially keep him out for the remainder of the 2016 season.
It’s an unfortunate turn of events for RG3. Griffin appeared to be one of the NFL’s most electrifying players as a rookie, but has been unable to stay on the field since suffering a torn ACL in the last game of his rookie season.
