Roger Goodell explains why he's 100 percent sure Tom Brady's suspension is right
For the first time since 2001, the New England Patriots will not begin the season with Tom Brady under center. Instead, Jimmy Garoppolo will take the first offensive snap against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday night.
The reason, of course, stems from Brady’s Deflategate suspension, which will keep him out for the first four weeks of the season. It was a battle between NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Brady that went on for more than a year and obviously ended with the quarterback being suspended for four games.
Even months after Brady’s ban was upheld, Goodell is positive he got the suspension right.
The punishment is viewed by many as being too harsh for it being just “more probable than not” that Brady was involved in the deflating of footballs. Furthermore, the suspension was at the center of the NFL dialogue, given that it involved one of the biggest stars in the league.
Goodell assured that there was no special treatment for Brady, though, despite being overwhelmingly popular (and polarizing) among fans.
