Ron Rivera talks with Shaq Thompson about profane video

Rookie Shaq Thompson found himself temporarily in Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera’s doghouse this week after footage surfaced of the linebacker profanely taunting the Seattle Seahawks and their fans in a Snapchat video.

Following the Panthers’ 31-24 victory over the Seahawks in last weekend’s divisional round, Thompson posted a video to Snapchat, a video messaging app where footage is auto-deleted shortly after being published.

“I got a message,” Thompson says in the video. “[Blank] y’all. [Blank] the Seahawks. Keep pounding [blank].”

The problem for Thompson is the videos can be recorded by others and posted elsewhere prior to deletion. This resulted in Rivera's having a discussion with Thompson.

“I sat down with Shaq,” Rivera said Wednesday, via the Charlotte Observer. “I discussed it. It’s over. So we decided the best thing for all of us is to move forward and get ready for Arizona.”

Rivera clearly feels he nipped this one in the bud and no further action is necessary. Although the Panthers hardly need these kind of distractions heading into the NFC Championship Game.

Hopefully, a stern talking-to from his head coach will prevent Thompson from making any further Snapchat videos. Or at least those of the sort he posted this time.
