Despite the departure of former defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, the Cardinals defense looked like it hadn't lost a step based on its Week 1 performance.

Arizona recorded five tackles for loss, four pass deflections, four quarterback hits and two sacks on Drew Brees and Co.

Rookie Markus Golden, drafted in the second round, explained what he saw on the field and how he adjusted to seeing his first NFL action.

"I could really tell (the SEC) got me ready for the NFL," Golden said, via Arizona Sports. "It was a little faster but I felt like it was where I thought it would be.

It was big to get that first one under my belt and I know I’m going to be ready for the next one and continue to get better every game.”

Even facing a prolific quarterback like Brees, Golden was up to the challenge because of his preparation leading into the game.

“Just from watching the guy all week I know what moves I could use and I was able to get some pressures,” Golden said, via Arizona Sports

The Cardinals defense could challenge to be one of the tops in the league thanks to a strong core in Calais Campbell, Tyrann Mathieu and Patrick Peterson.

Perhaps adding Golden to that list would make their unit even scarier.
