Rush Limbaugh: RG3 criticized because he's perceived as Republican

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has received a ton of criticism since his stellar rookie campaign. Injuries and poor play have left many sour on the former No. 2 overall pick and 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year.

One of the most unlikely supports of RG3 let his feelings be known about the embattled quarterback.

Political pundit Rush Limbaugh, who once criticized the media for over-praising Donovan McNabb because the press wanted to see a black quarterback succeed, believes that Griffin's game is so picked apart because of his suspected political affiliation.

"RGIII, the quarterback --€” don't know for how long --€ of the Washington Redskins, came into the league amidst great fanfare," Limbaugh said on his radio show via CBS DC. "First-round draft choice. Daniel Snyder, the owner of the Redskins, traded up to get RGIII, and he's had some injuries and he just hasn't maxed his potential.

"Well, some people think he's bombed. And the media, it's kind of strange, because here we have an African-American quarterback and yet the media has been kind of mean to RGIII. And one of the reasons is that it's suspected that RGIII is a Republican."

Griffin, 25, has seen his passing touchdowns go from 20 his rookie season down to four last season. He missed six games in 2014 after dislocating his right ankle in Week 2, finishing the campaign with 1,694 passing yards and six interceptions. He was sacked 33 times and lost four fumbles.
