Russell Wilson injury update: Seahawks QB leaves Week 3

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson can take punishment like no quarterback in the game. How is he still playing after being tackled like this?

The Seattle Seahawks are apparently going to have to earn every yard of offense the hard way in 2016. Their offensive line is terribly assembled by general manager John Schneider and the Seahawks don’t have the reliable running game they need now that Marshawn Lynch has retired.

Seattle does have three things going for it this season: 1.) Pete Carroll has established a winning culture in the Pacific Northwest. 2.) The Seattle defense is still the focal point of this NFC juggernaut. 3.) Seattle’s quarterback Russell Wilson refuses to get hurt.

How on Earth does Wilson not have to come out of the game after being tackled like this by this San Francisco 49ers defensive player? That type of pressure on a player’s leg might cost him the season and surely the game, but not the Iron Man that is Wilson.

Monday Morning Quarterback’s Albert Breer tweeted out the image of Wilson’s leg. How did the diminutive Seahawks quarterback not have his leg snapped in two on this punishing tackle? Wilson might now be the toughest player in football after getting up from that hit.

Should Seattle be able to hold off the 49ers, the Seahawks will move to 2-1 and will probably be in first place in the NFC West. San Francisco will fall to 1-2 after a loss to the Seahawks.

Shockingly, the Arizona Cardinals were upset on the road against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2 to fall to 1-2. If the Los Angeles Rams come up short on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Seattle could be alone atop the NFC West standings entering Week 4.
