Ryan Fitzpatrick says he still hopes to play for the Jets

Free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick might be unhappy with the contract the New York Jets offered him, but he's still holding out hope that the two sides will work out a deal this offseason.

Fitzpatrick joined Sirius XM NFL Radio on Monday and said he still wants to be the Jets' quarterback in 2016.

"I had a great time with the guys last year and I want to continue doing this." Fitzpatrick said. "It's been a process and the good thing about it is the discussions have been behind closed doors."

Fitzpatrick and the Jets are reportedly far apart on contract talks, but New York still seems like the most sensible landing spot for the 33-year-old QB, who threw 31 touchdowns to just 15 interceptions in 2015. The Jets currently lack a better option both internally and on the free-agent market, so it seems likely that a deal will eventually get done.

However, with mediocre quarterbacks like Brock Osweiler and Sam Bradford getting deals averaging $18-$20 million per year, Fitzpatrick is looking for a similar payday.

"You would drive yourself crazy looking at other contracts around the league," Fitzpatrick said.

Fitzpatrick wouldn't put a percentage on his chances of returning to the Jets but said he's still preparing for the upcoming season.
