Ryan Fitzpatrick says it was hard to 'face the guys' after throwing six interceptions
The New York Jets fell to 1-2 on Sunday following an embarrassing 24-3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The final score was obviously not something the team was proud of, but the box score was even worse.
Ryan Fitzpatrick threw six interceptions while the team committed a total of eight turnovers. It’s never good when a quarterback gets picked off six times, but it’s even worse when three of them happen in the red zone.
Needless to say, Fitzpatrick had a hard time facing his teammates on Monday.
"It's a hard day for me to come in [Monday], after we lost that game because of my performance," Fitzpatrick said, via NJ.com. "We don't really need to try to put it on anything else. I think that was pretty evident. To walk in [Monday] and have to face the guys, it's not an easy thing to do."
Fitzpatrick posted a passer rating of 18.2 and didn’t throw a single touchdown pass in what was undoubtedly the worst performance of his career. Fortunately, it was just one loss and he has a chance to make up for it this week against the Seahawks – not that it’ll be an easy task.
He didn’t have a hard time moving on from the horrendous showing, though.
"It's flushed," he said. "It was pretty easy to try to forget about that one. It was so bad, and there were so many poor things on my part that happened in that game, that you want to put it behind you as fast as you can."
Fitzpatrick said he talked about the game with some of his teammates, though he didn’t address the entire team as a whole. Where he was particularly critical of himself was in the red zone. Three interceptions inside the 20 can’t happen, and he understands that.
"The forced balls in the red area are just things that can't happen," Fitzpatrick said. "Part of that is we've been down there a lot this year and maybe haven't been as productive as we were last year.”
