Saints first to score 2 points defensively on NFL PAT

NEW ORLEANS (AP) The New Orleans Saints became the first team in NFL history to score 2 points defensively on a failed extra point kick when rookie linebacker Stephone Anthony returned the blocked kick 82 yards.

Carolina was attempting the extra point Sunday following Jonathan Stewart's 5-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Defensive tackle Kevin Williams pushed through the middle of the line to block Graham Gano's kick.

The ball bounced fortuitously to Anthony, who snagged it in stride and went untouched the other way to give New Orleans a 16-13 lead. That gave Anthony eight points in the game, including his touchdown on a strip of Stewart and 31-yard return.

For this season, the NFL made a rule change moving back the line scrimmage for PAT kicks from the 2-yard line to the 15 while allowing defenses to return any type of unsuccessful conversion for 2 points.
