METAIRIE, La. (AP) The New Orleans Saints have placed starting left tackle Terron Armstead on injured reserve, ending his season.

The 6-foot-5, 304-pound Armstead, who last May signed a five-year contract extension worth up to $65 million, has played in only seven of New Orleans' 13 games this season because of nagging knee and quadriceps injuries.

Armstead was a third-round draft pick by the Saints out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2013 and has been a starter since late in his rookie season.

His removal from New Orleans' active roster was posted on the NFL's transactions list late Wednesday afternoon.

With a new roster spot open, New Orleans added veteran linebacker Jason Trusnik, who joined the NFL in 2007 and has played for the New York Jets, Cleveland, Miami and Minnesota.
