After showing off his big boot in a 45-14 win against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thanksgiving Day, Detroit Lions punter Sam Martin was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Martin punted four times against the Eagles for a total of 184 yards (46.0 yards per punt). His long punt of the day was only 47 yards, so it was a very consistent day for the former fifth-round draft pick. Philadelphia's Darren Sproles, one of the NFL's most dangerous return men, only returned two of Martin's punts for a total of three yards.
The struggles of Detroit's offense have allowed Martin to get plenty of practice this season. After seven outings with at least five punt attempts, his finest performance of the year came in a Week 12 demolition of the Eagles.
