Sam Ponder talks Super Bowl, GameDay and more

Now that the college football season has come to a close, ESPN’s Samantha Ponder is enjoying some much needed down time with her husband Christian and daughter Scout at home in Phoenix. I caught up with Ponder this week where she revealed her Super Bowl LI plans, offseason plans and her partnership with Secret and their NFL themed “Stress Tested for Women” campaign.

Ponder and Secret have been rolling out the “Stress Tested for Women ads all across social platforms ahead of Super Bowl LI. Ponder says she wishes she could have sent care packages to the Falcons and Patriots players’ wives, fiancés and girlfriends full of secret and other goodies for this weekend. Being a NFL wife, she knows better than anyone the stress they will be going through on game day.

While Ponder didn’t get to make it to most of her husband’s games this season, she had a pretty good excuse. Ponder is the host of College GameDay, College Football Live and reports for ABC and ESPN every Saturday Night in the primetime spot. When Ponder played for Minnesota she recalls huddling with fellow quarterback wives saying, “They get all the praise and all the criticism.” She feels for pal Sarah Ryan, wife of Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan and says she will be just as nervous for her friend watching her husband play in footballs biggest game.

While all the action will be taking place in Houston, Ponder and her family will have a relaxing Super Bowl party with friends and family in Phoenix. Normally the couple attend Super Bowl weekend but were involved in events leading up to this year’s Waste Management Phoenix Open. Ponder is also expecting her second child and said it was a good year to stay put.

As far is who the Ponders will be rooting on in Super Bowl LI, there is no way she could go with anyone other than the Falcons and good friends Matt and Sarah Ryan.
