Sammy Watkins skipped the first day of Bills workouts to go to a casino

Last season, Sammy Watkins emerged as a leader for the Buffalo Bills. He was outspoken with the number of touches he was receiving and called out his teammates for not being held accountable.

Now it seems like Watkins is the one who needs to be questioned.

Voluntary offseason workouts for the Bills began on Monday, and Watkins was a no-show, according to Mike Rodak of ESPN. While it's not entirely surprising to see a player skip the first day of non-mandatory workouts, Watkins' outspoken criticism from last season makes his absence surprising. Especially considering where he might have been instead.

The 22-year-old from Clemson shared a photo early on Tuesday of poker chips from Harrah's Cherokee Casino in North Carolina.

Watkins' reasoning for being at the casino aren't exactly clear, but there was a World Series of Poker event on Monday night. Rex Ryan, of course, noticed Watkins was missing, but he danced around the question when asked.

"I said I wasn't going to talk about anybody being here or not being here," Ryan said.

The Bills coach did admit that attendance wasn't 100 percent.

"I know we had a great turnout for [the] voluntary deal; we weren't 100-percent for attendance, but a couple of guys gave me phone calls, all that stuff," Ryan said. "I won't get into specifics on who was here and who wasn't here because it is voluntary, but I'm encouraged by the turnout we have and everybody's I think excited to get this season going."
