The San Francisco 49ers made a couple of transactions Monday. First, the team placed rookie cornerback Will Redmond on injured reserve. And then the Niners re-signed running back DuJuan Harris to a one-year deal.
The San Francisco 49ers aren’t quite done finalizing their 53-man roster in advance of Week 1 of the regular season.

Per the team’s website, the Niners placed rookie cornerback Will Redmond on injured reserve and also re-signed running back DuJuan Harris to a one-year deal.
General manager Trent Baalke drafted Redmond in Round 3 of the 2016 NFL Draft. Redmond was coming off an ACL injury last October. Baalke fully expected Redmond to be ready for training camp and the regular season, per Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News.
Redmond never quite looked right during his action in the preseason. Even defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil said, via Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, the rookie wasn’t “all the way there yet” when evaluating his performance.
The former Mississippi State product is the latest ACL-injury pick Baalke has made as GM for San Francisco. The overwhelming majority haven’t panned out.
But Redmond is eligible to return this season since he made the team’s initial 53-man roster, per ESPN’s Nick Wagoner.
To plug the gap, San Francisco re-signed journeyman running back DuJuan Harris, who was released Saturday.

San Francisco signed Harris as a free agent last season to help out with a depleted backfield. Harris totaled 140 yards on 27 carries over two games with the Niners in 2015. The 28-year-old tailback has 107 rushing attempts for 452 yards and two touchdowns during his five-year career.

Another bonus for San Francisco is Harris’ ability to be a reliable pass-catcher out of the backfield. He also has 129 career yards on 13 receptions — nine of which came with the Niners a year ago.
Harris will likely supplement San Francisco’s ground game behind No. 1 tailback Carlos Hyde and backups Mike Davis and Shaun Draughn.
